How is design maturity measured?
Every function in an organization needs a systematic way to measure its growth & influence through a set of measurements.
Why Design Maturity?
Design maturity is the level at which design is operating within your business. Your organization might be in different levels, depending upon its culture and best practices it follows, and there are a lot of combinations and permutations.
Many businesses can look at the multiple parameters, and we at Cubyts offer these six dimensions for measuring the maturity of an organization.
Measuring the efficacy of design function
A design maturity model is a tool that helps organizations assess the current effectiveness of a design system or practice and supports figuring out what capabilities they need to acquire next to improve their performance. Maturity models are structured as a series of levels of effectiveness. For example, the NN Group model defines the Design maturity model, and typically organizations traverse this journey of improving its maturity over time.
Understanding an organization’s design maturity can also help the design team define where they want to be in five or ten years and how they can get there.
Defining what and how to measure should be the process owned by the design team. Every design team has a different and unique context that needs to be considered. Discussing the measures and the approach is a great starting point for any evaluation discussion and also makes the team feel like they own their self-evaluation maturity model.
Whether the team is centralized or distributed, by measuring Design Maturity, it is easier for the design team to assess how they as a team or individually are ranking in terms of UX Maturity, starting the conversation about what needs to be done and where to invest more.
Cubyts maturity assessment measures the current maturity level of a certain aspect of an organization in a meaningful way, enabling stakeholders to identify strengths and improvement points and prioritize what to do to reach higher maturity levels. It also gives recommendations to work on certain areas which need improvement.
At Cubyts, you can add goals with projects. With every project, you can associate metrics and measurement activities. These activities will automatically get added to the project. You can now start uploading documents in this activity and update the target progress and evidence documents. This way, you can not only measure your project but everyone in the team is also aligned with the project's progress.
